Blink Murder

The Main Task

Blink Murder is the name we gave to the film that we made the opening sequence for as part of our main task. The brief was to create a 2 minute opening sequence for a film of any genre, including titles and a soundtrack, with no copyrighted materials. The Prelim - Ugliest Jumper Ever

The Preliminary Exercise

This is our preliminary exercise, which we called Ugliest Jumper Ever. The aim was to create a sequence demonstrating good continuity techniques, and had to show match on action, shot/reverse-shot, and the 180-degree rule. The brief stated that it had to be 30 seconds long, and comprise of a character opening a door, crossing a room, and sitting down in a chair opposite another character with whom s/he exchanges a few lines of dialogue. My Own Contributions

As I'm acting in our sequence, I'm unable to film or do sound or light for almost all of the shots, although I did quite a lot of these things on our first test shoot. However, I feel I've contributed well to the group, and we've all worked together really well, everyone adding in good ideas and developing them, as well as helping to construct a shooting script and come up with the different shot types. I've also helped in thinking of ways to overcome problems that have arisen with, for example, the way things link together and follow on - we had quite a lot to think about here because as we changed the idea about cross-cutting to a couple walking home, some of our shot transitions no longer made sense - and we're filming at my house.
I really love the way it's all coming together and developing, and there are a few shots that I don't have to be in, so will have the opportunity to film, which I'm quite looking forward to - especially because one will be from our attic - a bit scary, but fun!
